The Football Writers' Association footballer of the Year (FWA footballer of the Year) is an annual award given to players who look very impressive in the Barclays Premier League. This award is given from 1947-1948, winning the first award of Stanley Matthews (Blackpool).
Winners FWA footballer of the Year is selected by a vote amongst the members of the Football Writers' Association (FWA), this award was a suggestion of Charles Buchan (a former professional footballer turned journalist). Source (www.footballwriters.co.uk).
